HIA v. DEA
In 2001 the DEA moved to ban hemp seed oil in US food and personal care. Three years later the Ninth Circuit struck the rule down in HIA v. DEA (357 F.3d 1012). That ruling kept hemp seed oil legal in US personal care for fourteen years — until the 2018 Farm Bill made the question moot. Almost every American hemp soap, lotion or shampoo sold between 2004 and 2018 owes its existence to that case.
