Hemp's most boring and most durable consumer category. Hurd absorbs about four times its weight in moisture — twice straw, three times wood shavings. Ammonia drops about 50% in stalls properly mucked on hemp bedding. The dominant end-use of European fibre-production hurd.
Aubiose
Originally a salvage market for hurd left over after fibre production at La Chanvrière de l'Aube. Distributed throughout the UK, France, Germany and Belgium. Forty years on it is still the European reference brand. Veterinary research in the late 1990s linking low-dust hemp bedding to fewer equine respiratory issues pulled British stables onto the crop.

Small-animal hemp bedding for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters. Mass-market pet store distribution — PetSmart, Petco, Amazon. The category's American gateway: 'hemp bedding' as a normal pet-aisle SKU.

British stables
The Equine Veterinary Journal connected low-dust hemp bedding with reduced Recurrent Airway Obstruction — the equine equivalent of asthma. UK stables moved hemp under their best horses. The growth story is unglamorous and durable — exactly the profile MOHA's first-revenue plays should target.

The hurd
Hemp hurd biodegrades to compost in 3–6 months; wood shavings take 12–18. There's no bedding-specific regulatory standard in the EU or US; producers self-certify on dust, mould and aflatoxin thresholds. Hemp bedding is low-dust only when screened — cheaper grades have substantial dust.
