A hempcrete house is a timber frame wrapped in a thick hemp-lime wall and finished with lime render. From the outside it looks like any well-built home; the difference is what the wall is made of and what it stores.

Interior
Inside, lime plaster over hempcrete gives soft, matt walls that let moisture move. With timber floors and good daylight, rooms stay comfortable through the year with less heating and cooling.

Up close you can still see the hemp hurd in the wall. The texture that holds the lime together is also what traps still air — the source of its insulation.

Village
Hempcrete scales from one house to a neighbourhood. Building in clusters shares crews, formwork and a local hemp supply, which lowers cost and keeps transport short.
A cluster, not a one-off
Site
On site, the hemp-lime mix is placed by hand or sprayed around the timber frame between temporary shuttering. Once it sets, the shuttering comes off and the wall is ready for render — no separate insulation or vapour barrier.

Office
The same wall works for workplaces. A hempcrete envelope keeps offices steady in temperature and humidity, cutting the energy spent on heating and cooling.

Public buildings are where materials prove themselves. A double-height reading room in hempcrete shows the wall can be civic, calm and beautiful — and hold carbon for the life of the building.
